B Minor Chord Analysis

as played in Figure 1.

The B minor chord consists of one and one-half steps (from the note B to the note D, a minor 3rd interval) plus two whole steps (from the note D to the note F#, a major 3rd interval). Therefore, the three notes that comprise an B minor chord are: B + D + F#. This analysis holds true for all minor chords. Notice that the spelling of the B minor chord form in Figure 1 is B + F# + B + D + F#. 

Figure 2 demonstrates an easier fingering for the B minor chord. Notice that with this fingering your omitting the root, or low B note.
